Roma Termini at a Glance
Roma Termini is Rome's main railway station and the busiest in Italy. Almost every visitor passes through it: high-speed trains from Florence, Naples, Milan and Venice arrive here, the Leonardo Express runs non-stop to Fiumicino Airport, both metro lines A and B meet underneath it, and the city's biggest bus terminal is right outside. This Roma Termini map shows where each of these is, plus the sights within a few minutes' walk.
Getting Around the Station
Metro Termini: Lines A and B
Termini is the only stop where Rome's two main metro lines cross, reached from the lower level of the station. Line B takes you to Colosseo in two stops (via Cavour), then on to Circo Massimo and Piramide for Roma Ostiense station. Line A runs to Repubblica, Barberini (for the Trevi Fountain), Spagna (Spanish Steps) and Ottaviano for the Vatican.
See the Rome metro map for every station.
Piazza dei Cinquecento: Buses and Taxis
The large square in front of the station is Rome's busiest city-bus terminal. Useful lines for visitors include the 40 and 64 to Largo di Torre Argentina (for the Pantheon) and on towards St Peter's, and the H to Trastevere. The official taxi rank is on this side of the station too; only take white, licensed taxis from the rank.

Airport Trains and Coaches
The Leonardo Express to Fiumicino (FCO) takes 32 minutes non-stop. It usually leaves from platforms 23–24, a long walk from the main hall, so allow about ten minutes to reach the train. Airport coaches to Fiumicino and Ciampino stop on Via Giolitti and Via Marsala, the streets on either side of the station; which side depends on the operator, so check your ticket.

Sights Near Termini
The area around the station is often rushed through, but several major sights are within a ten-minute walk:
- Servian Wall: a stretch of Rome's 4th-century BC city wall stands right by the station forecourt
- Palazzo Massimo: part of the National Roman Museum, across the piazza, with outstanding ancient frescoes and mosaics
- Baths of Diocletian: the largest baths of ancient Rome, which gave the station its name (from terme, baths)
- Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri: a basilica Michelangelo built inside the ruins of the baths, free to enter
- Piazza della Repubblica: with the Fountain of the Naiads, about five minutes away
- Santa Maria Maggiore: one of Rome's four papal basilicas, a short walk south-west
Tips for Using Termini
- Platforms: departure boards usually show the platform about 20 minutes before the train leaves
- Tickets: high-speed tickets have a fixed train and seat; paper regional tickets must be validated before boarding
- Left luggage: the station has a staffed left-luggage office, handy between hotel check-out and an evening train
- Pickpockets: Termini is busy; keep bags closed and ignore anyone offering to "help" at ticket machines
- Taxis from the airport: Termini is inside the Aurelian Walls, so the fixed airport taxi fares apply
- Water: refill your bottle for free at a nasone; see the drinking fountains map
